In a significant move, the government has established the fourth schedule, a list comprising individuals with confirmed connections to proscribed organizations. Those included in this schedule will face travel, speech, and business restrictions as imposed by the provincial home departments.
Furthermore, an agreement has been reached, stipulating a reduction in petrol and diesel prices on June 30 and July 15. The government has committed to considering the decline in international oil prices, the availability of cost-effective Russian oil, and the strengthened value of the rupee against the US dollar. This consideration aims to pass on the resulting relief to consumers.
Another aspect of the agreement entails the promotion of Urdu as the official language for written communications within government offices.
Following the agreement, Interior Minister Mr. Sanaullah addressed the media, highlighting the primary focus of the discussions: curbing blasphemy cases. Additionally, the minister acknowledged the TLP's demand for the release of Dr. Aafia, emphasizing that her incarceration is a national issue that deeply saddens the Pakistani populace. He urged human rights organizations to pay attention to her situation and assured that the government would correspond with US authorities regarding this matter.
Mr. Sanaullah also revealed that Finance Minister Ishaq Dar briefed TLP leaders on the mechanism used to determine petrol prices, including international oil rates and the rupee-dollar parity. The government has assured the TLP that the benefits of reduced prices, resulting from the arrival of Russian oil, will be passed on to the public.
Dr. Amini, a TLP leader, expressed appreciation for the government's approach, noting the preference for dialogue over confrontation, in contrast to the previous administration.
In a separate address to traders in Faisalabad, Mr. Sanaullah criticized PTI Chairman Imran Khan, highlighting how PTI leaders abandoned him following the May 9 attacks. He also mentioned the PTI's failure to fulfill commitments with the IMF. As a result, the PDM government cannot provide subsidies to the public, as the lender insists on implementing the deal negotiated by the PTI. Mr. Sanaullah praised the PML-N government's efforts, emphasizing how it successfully ended power shortages and reduced terrorism during its four-year rule, in contrast to the challenging circumstances faced in 2013.
